FLORIDA –– The Brady Campaign has endorsed Allen Ellison for Congress Campaign as he seeks election to the United States Congress, District 17.
The Brady Campaign is a national organization whose mission is to create a safer America by cutting gun deaths in half by 2025. The Sarasota County chapter has announced its backing of the Ellison for Congress campaign.
“I am honored to be endorsed by this great organization. I thank the Brady Campaign for the hard work in working to keep our communities safer and I congratulate the other candidates that were endorsed. I look forward to this continued partnership as we both champion work and propose legislation/policy that would not only bring common sense gun reform, but also respect and honor the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens,” said Ellison.
The Sarasota County branch of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence was the first chapter in the state prior to the Parkland, FL school shooting in early 2018.
Carol Rescigno, President of the Sarasota County chapter of the Brady Campaign, spoke highly of Ellison and his efforts in gun reform.
“Allen is an excellent example of someone who we think would go to congress and go on a national level and say all the right things and do all the right things,” Rescigno said. “We’ve had people in positions who haven’t and 90 percent of Americans want things to change.”
According to Rescigno, the Sarasota County chapter of the Brady Campaign is confident that Allen will put Floridians first, lobby for reform and spark change in the state.
“Our sense about Allen is that he would work to affect change, file bills and support bills to make better gun laws. He appears to be someone who is not just talk but about action.”
